Souvenirs

Filthy. But we made it back across the border with only minor mishaps to our caravan.

Mexican parking stubs are a lot more charming than the legalese covered ones here.

Reducing consumption

Ramen noodles with indented space to hold an egg. Like a nest. Very good product semantics. Too bad the noodles taste icky.

10 lbs of garbage and 82 lbs of back seat removed for better fuel economy. Damn $5 gas. The non-aerodynamic box now gets 26 mpg. Not bad for a rolling shipping container.

My grocery purchasing decisions are often influenced by being matchy matchy with my kitchen. It's now become subconscious that I don't realize I'm buying orange things.

Grilled calamari suffered from extreme shrinkage. Sigh. What seemed like multiple portions, turned into one.

But at least I have summer corn. Corn doesn't shrink much on the grill.

And summer peaches. These peaches are only "meh." Grilling it makes it somewhat tastier. But what I wouldn't give for a juicy sun ripened yellow peach right about now.

Pining after

The world's best-est limoncello ever! Beautiful chartreuse jewel toned colors from the Aaron method- combined with the delicious piney rosemary flavors of the Ed method. And the super aromatic kick from an armful of Davy lemons. Is good. Is very good.

No minors signage hung outside my bedroom. To help me stay out of trouble.

Woodie wagon is back in action. This time sporting fashionable Korean pine planks.

Shoeless

New Costco shoes for the car. This is a dangerous situation since I am forced to shop inside during the time my car is held hostage. But I can limit the time I can do damage by sitting down for a $1.62 Costco hotdog and soda meal before I go inside.

Roast olive oil and lemon chicken. With fingerling potatoes. The lemon tree just keeps going and going this year. The chicken could use some new shoes too.

Bam boooo!

Woody wagon paneling was looking a bit faded. It's time to start fresh with something new. In light of the current eco-chic trends, I may put up bamboo panels next. Faux vinyl bamboo panels to be exact. In this country, most of us embrace environmentalism only if it's convenient and makes us look good. And we only do it half assed.

Heavy handed

The bucket line commences again today.

Moving 30 bags of 50 kilo cement bags? Like carrying marshmallow peeps for manly men like us.

We head home a bit sun burned, quite a lot dirtier, and aching head to toe- hopefully with fuller hearts knowing that we laid a new foundation for the family, literally.

Packing the rear

It's time for the twice annual Tijuana volunteer house building trip. Costco has colonized my refrigerator with Sunday breakfast for 30. Fitting all this into the back of the car may prove to be a challenge. My Tetris skills are a bit rusty these days.

The Posada at La Gloria Mexico sports an orange and purple color scheme this year. I'm glad I brought my matching hat.

Fiery depths of hell

Hell is real. And it is Kentucky.

There's a reason why most nostalgia candies like Necco wafers and candy cigarettes are found only at gas stations in the middle of nowhere and not at the supermarkets. Ick! Gross. Nasty. Lemonheads are still good for the 21st century though. (I'm such a nerd that I knew that Necco was short for New England Confectionary Company.)

Asian people caravanning through the bowels of Kentucky in a Toyota Prius with Illinois plates may not have been one of our wiser decisions.

The smell of fermenting yeasty corn mash reminds me of my failures in bread making. Perhaps I may be successful at making moonshine.

Whirling blades of death.

Copper stills look like I Dream of Jeannie bottles.

Barrels of bourbon. It may be possible to get drunk just by spending a lot of time in the bourbon warehouse. Probably a bad idea to smoke around here. Woodford Distillery must have happy termites.

Werd, yo.

Life hands you lemons

Enough with the lemons already!

Baby artichoke. I wonder if it's possible to make Cynar artichoke liqueur at home?

Baby donut peach.

Baby alberta peachs. For making peach ice cream for Meg.

Baby brown turkey figs.

Baby shinseiki pears.

Baby loquats.

Baby limes.

Baby lemons. Ah crap... I'm still harvesting tons of lemons and the next round is about to come in too.

3 wheeled Zap electric car. Why does being green have to be this dorky?

Woody emissions

Just when I thought I was being all cool with my woody wagon paneled Honda, this VW puts my car to shame with it's total and complete woodiness. And only a few blocks away no less. I'm feeling inadequate in the woody department now.

And wonderfully preserved factory made wood paneled Jeeps puts my roll of $7 wood grain shelf paper to shame too.

Spring cleaning time means many hidden vintage Ferraris see the light of day.

And eco-conscious electric golf cart hippies emerge in droves.

To balance out the RV's and gas guzzling modified trucks.

What the heck is a "Hanbag?" And why are there two of them?

And we're awash in VW buses around here. This one is beautifully restored and likely will cost more than some of those vintage Ferraris.

This one not so restored, but I covet it just the same.

And even more VW buses too numerous to post. Some of them even have creative aftermarket touches like rivoting half a Rubbermaid Roughneck container to the side of the engine compartment to increase airflow.

Mayhaps one day, collectors will seek out Chevy Sprints like they do VW buses.

Or Powder Blue Ford Fairmonts.

This motor home is bigger than my house. And it gets even bigger when it does the Transformer thing and extend out all of the moveable walls.

I think they're going to go to Home Depot to bring back some steer manure.

In front of the bright yellow house is a matching bright yellow Fiat Cinquecento. I want to give it a hug.
