Happy birthday MK

Mmmm..... chocolate guinness cake. With chocolate ganache frosting. A lady does not divulge her age, so there are only twelve candles. Coincidentally, squiggly candles are sold in packs of twelve.

Jumping for joy. Birthdays are fun.

Tonight's menu:

Warm spiced rum pecans (Went over well at Thanksgiving, decided to make it again)

Mildly curried butternut squash soup with cilantro and toasted pepitas (Organic butternut squash on sale. 89cents/lb)

Roast chicken with lime chipotle butter (Tasty, but could use some fiddling with those convection oven settings)

Braised fennel bulbs (I read about braised fennel on a food blog a week ago and it sounded delicious. And it is delicious.)

Roasted yukon gold potato slices (Gotta have potatos for the Irish birthday girl)

Pan seared red snapper with lime and wine reduction (I was intrigued by Sara Moulton discussing Wondra Flour on one of the podcasts that I listen to. And one of the chefs on Food Network used it to bread trout the other day. I just had to track down Wondra Flour and try it out.)

Mulled apple cider sorbet (Extra apple cider that I didn't want to go to waste, so they morphed into a silky sorbet with the addition of sugar, a splash of vodka, and a few churns on the ice cream maker.)

Rosemary bread (store bought)

Some good chardonnay of which I can't remember the name because there wasn't an animal on the label

Sparkling apple cranberry Martinelli's for the non-alchoholic birthday girl

And the previously mentioned chocolate guinness cake
